Hall#3. The Defense Of Kyiv
The Defense of Kyiv that lasted from 11 July till 26 September 1941, turned out all but the worst disaster of the Great Patriotic War. The materials of the exposition convincingly testify that the Red Army soldiers, the people's militia, and local inhabitants were selflessly defending their native city. However, strategic mistakes of the Main Commanding Headquarters were decisive for the course of events. As a result, almost 5 Soviet armies were encircled. The troops of the front lost over 500 thousand men. This Grievous List includes almost the whole personnel of the Headquarters of the Front headed by Colonel General M. Kyrponos. However, the defense of Kyiv substantially delayed the progress of Hitler forces and made them correct their offensive plans.
